Huge Donation to Schools

A huge donation which is given to three school districts and five charter groups by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is the largest education grant in a decade. The donation of  $290 million will focus mainly on reforming teacher management and studying what makes teachers effective.

On November 17th, a pregnant woman collapsed and landed on the subway tracks in Brooklyn. 2 men jumped and saved the women who is 10 weeks pregnant.

Free Airport Wi-Fi During Holiday Season

Google will offer free Wi-Fi in airports   in the USA during the holiday season (till January 15th 2010).  Currently there are 47 American airports offering this service including  Las Vegas, Boston, Houston, Seattle, Miami and many others.

Wedding Ring Returned to Vietnam POW

James Hivner, a Retired Air Force Colonel, was captured by Viet Cong 44 years ago. They took all of his belongings including his wedding ring. Last Wednesday James finally got his ring back.

Stolen Van Found After 35 Years

On Oct 19, customs agents found a 1965  Volkswagen van at the Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport. The van was stolen 35 years ago during the 1974 World’s Fair which was hosted in Spokane WA.

Solar Trees at Dell’s Parking Lot

You can now find at Dell parking lot  a series of solar trees that will both help power its headquarters in  Texas, and  also serve to charge electric vehicles parked there.

This  will provide 130,000 kW/h per year and some  shade for the 56 cars who get to the lot first.

Homeless Woman Back To Broadway

Last year, Terri White, a 61 woman who was performing on Broadway as a kid, is now back on Broadway, appearing in the musical “Finian’s Rainbow,”the  same play she first performed in as a child and opened Thursday in the St. James Theater in New York City.
