Super Green City in Abu Dhabi

In an inhospitable desert on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi a new green city named Masdar being build.  The new city will use solely renewable energy and will produce no waste where no cars and no skyscrapers will be present. The city is planned to have a population of 50,000 people, a university and about 1,000 businesses.

Global Deforestation Slows Down

For the first time the global deforestation pace is slowing down, according the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). New forests are being created, either through the expansion of forests or more rapidly through the planting of trees.

New World Record for Water Skiers

A group of 114 water skiers broke the world record when they successfully were towed by a single boat over one nautical mile on west coast of Tasmania. The skiers got the best conditions they could hope for.

Nanny Runs Into Fire to Save 5-year-old Boy

22-year-old Alyson Myatt from Kentucky was sleeping in her room at the 1st floor bedroom where she is working as a live-in nanny for 5-year-old when she heard a loud noise and ran upstairs  to see if the boy was ok. When she got to the 2nd floor she noticed flames on the carper, she ran, barefoot, to the boy room and saved him.

End Illegal Trade in Rhino

The Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) has accepted Kenya’s proposal on better protection for rhinos. The proposal includes increasing law enforcement, training of guards, better border surveillance, enhanced rhino monitoring and awareness campaigns in consumer countries.

Chilean Returned Cash Found in Collapsed Home

A Chilean sailor found 4 million pesos equals about 7,600 dollars in an open safe of a collapsed home in Santiago. The cash found was delivered to the local police to be returned to the owner.

Wonderful News to the Botanical Community

Rare orchid which was last seen in 1986 and was officially declared extinct in 2005 have been rediscovered in Britain. This discovery gives hope that this delicate species will not be gone forever.

US Air Quality Improved Significantly

Soon: Huge Decreases in Energy Use

Light emitting diode (LED) technology which is starting to make its way to the market is expected to be widely used in the next decade. The adoption of this new technology will save $120 billion, will eliminate the need for 24 new large power plants and will decrease carbon emissions. US Department of Energy (DOE) has plans to spur growth in the LED technology adaptation by contests, R&D projects and market-based projects.
