Scientists synthesized a complete bacterial genome and used it to take over a cell. This new breakthrough can lead to new technologies of biofuels, vaccines, and more. Synthetic Genomics has a contract with ExxonMobil to generate biofuels from algae.

The USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) announced last week an addition of 75,000 acres to their Wetlands Reserve Program. Wetlands are an important habitat to many species, they filter contaminants from the water, and they prevent flooding and soil erosion, and play other environmental key roles. The USDA will also provide approximately $175 million in funding to the 22 states and Puerto Rico, too.

Wall-Mart plans to donate a huge amount of $2 billion of grants and food in the next five years to hunger relief organizations. The plan is to donate more than 1.1 billion pounds of fruits, vegetables, meats and other type of food in addition to grants equals to $250 million.
