Shark fin ban in California

The bill which was approved by the state Assembly earlier this year, would take effect on January 1, 2013. This ban will protect the shark populations from over-fishing. California, that is home for a large  Chinese-Americans population, is one of the biggest markets for shark fins outside Asia.

10 new frogs discovered in India’s rainforest

Snow Leopards Discovered in Afghanistan

A healthy population of the rare snow leopards has been spotted in mountainous northeastern Afghanistan and the Wildlife Conservation Society said the endangered animals have been documented by camera traps at 16 different locations along the Wakhan Corridor.

Bahamas to ban shark fishing

Last Tuesday, The  Agriculture Minister Larry Cartwright approved a new law which  banns shark fishing in the Bahamas  waters and prohibited the sale, import and export of shark products.

After 87 years rainbow toad reappears

The endangered Sambas Stream Toad, or Bornean Rainbow Toad (Ansonia latidisca) was last seen in 1924. Last week, a group of researchers spotted it in Borneo.

Significant rise in rhino population at Nepal

Over the last 3 years there is a significant rise in rhinoceros population after it was  decreased during the fights between government troops and Maoists rebels. These fights had left the forests unguarded hunting activity was facing little resistance.

Russia to stop polar bear hunting

Last year, A Russian-U.S. commission agreed to restrict polar bear hunting to 29 bears every year for each of the countries. But Russia’s polar bear program decidednot to allow polar bear hunting in Russia.

Tsunami Dolphin back at sea

Family dog saved by dolphins

The 11 years old Doberman disappeared on Sunday got stuck in a canal at Marco island and was only found after 15 hours by a neighbor living near by because of the persistence of some dolphins.

25 Lions rescued from Bolivian circuses

25 lions (13 males and 12 females) rescued from Bolivian circuses and were brought to a wildlife sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado (35 miles northeast of Denver).
