New class of drugs for pancreatic tumours

In UK almost 8000 people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer every year and it is the fifth most deadly cancer, A new study, published in the journal Nature, showed that a gene was being switched off in the cancerous cells.
A new set of drugs which according to researchers already being tested has the potential to turn the gene back on and stop the spread of the cancer.

Single antibody to shrink tumours

Researchers say that the new drug which is in developing can reduce tumors size and if given at early stages can even be a cure. The drug works on breast, prostate, ovarian, bowel, brain, bladder and liver cancers, and previous studies even show it can also be used against  some blood cancers.

A 9 years old girl from Maine is back home from a Boston hospital after receiving a 6-organ transplant - stomach, liver, spleen, small intestine, pancreas, and part of an esophagus to replace her own that were being choked by a huge tumor.

Yoga room in SF Airport

A new yoga room is now available at terminal 2 at San Francisco airport. The room which has low lights, and soothing blue walls aim to afford travelers a place to stretch out and meditate before they get on a plane.

Hope for Hepatitis C vaccine

A group of researchers from Oxford university is at an early clinical trial of a hepatitis C vaccine which is showing  “promising” results. The World Health Organization estimates there are 170 million people globally infected with the virus.

Reversing Alzheimer’s disease

Canadian Scientist used deep brain stimulation in which doctors apply electricity directly to regions of the brain. In 2 Alzheimer’s disease patients, the brain’s memory hub reversed its expected decline and actually grew.
