The medical team at the University of Alberta Hospital offered a brain cancer patient at the age of 30 to use DCA, a drug used to treat rare metabolic disorders, which also showed the ability to shrink tumors in rats. After 15 months the tumor was gone, 3 other patient who took this drug had their tumors shrink significantly or stop growing.

On week 20 of their pregnancy, doctors told Jessica Browning that her twins are in risk, the twins looked healthy, but their bags were different sizes. Usually, parents have a decision to make to lose one of the twins, but Jessica went under a risky operation in which a hole was made in the thin membrane that separated the twins, allowing the fluid to equalize. Babies were born healthy at 32 weeks.
