During 2011, General Motors, which nearly collapsed two years ago, earned $7.6 billion, its largest profit ever after breaking its 1997 record of $6.7 billion. At the beginning of March, the 47,500 blue-collar workers in the United States will get $7,000 profit-sharing checks.

A new bike-sharing program in Boston

A new share a bike program in Boston has officially launched last week, with bicycles available at 61 stations around the city. Rides shorter than half an hour are free for all members, with charges accrued for each half-hour of riding time.

GE Embrace 25,000 Electric Cars

General Electric will convert half of its corporate fleet to electric vehicles by 2015. The company will buy 12,000 GM vehicles from next year beginning with Chevy Volt. GE is hoping that its planned purchase will help reducing the costs of electric cars by increasing production volumes.

Solar Plane Lands Safely

Solar powered plane left Switzerland 2 nights ago for a first 24 hours test flight. The plane, which was able to fly during the night after getting enough energy from the sun during the day, climb to 28,000 feet and reached top speeds of over 75 mph.
