Americans gave more to charity in 2011

According to a report released last week by Atlas of Giving, during 2011, Americans gave a total of nearly $347 billion to charity. This total is a a 7.5% increase comparing to 2010.

Last month Maria found a bag which was left on her doorstep filled with Avocados and below them an envelope with an anonymous cashier’s check in her name.

No more shark fin at Singapore supermarkets

The largest supermarket chain in Singapore has announced it will stop selling shark fin products starting April. About a month ago few restaurants and hotels in China also announced they will no longer be serving shark fin soup.

Hope for Hepatitis C vaccine

A group of researchers from Oxford university is at an early clinical trial of a hepatitis C vaccine which is showing “promising” results. The World Health Organization estimates there are 170 million people globally infected with the virus.

Getting back lost money

A couple who lost $12,000 last week was lucky to get it back after a 63 years old woman from Akron, Ohio, found the bag with the money and brought it to the police station. The police used other documents in the bag to locate the couple and give the money back.

Diamond ring goes to charity

An anonymous donor in Miami dropped a $2000 worth diamond ring into a Salvation Army kettle last week. At noon a woman, who wishes to stay anonymous, called the office and said she had left something special in the kettle in front of Kmart.
