Donations from Americans for earthquake relief in Haiti have passed the $1 billion and received by 91 charities engaged in Haiti relief. Major recipients of Haiti donations include American Red Cross, Catholic Relief Services, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF and the U.S. wing of Doctors Without Borders.

Sultan Ibrahim, the ruler of Johor state of Malaysia, bans hunting of wildlife in the state including tigers, bears, deer, mousedeer, tapir and porcupines. In addition the state has breeding program with the intention of releasing animals into the jungle.

The yellow-spotted bell frog which considered to have been extinct for 30 years has been discovered on a remote farmland in Australia. A colony of around 100 frogs of this special species was identified and this gives hope to find more animals that we thought were extinct.

Sweden is planning to reach half of its energy consumption to be provided by renewable sources by the year 2020. One big project includes 2,000 wind turbines which will provide 10TWh of energy per year, 15TWh more will be provided by other sources like solar power and biofuels. Sweden current status is already quite good with 20% of its energy provided by renewable sources like hydroelectricity plants.

The New York-based artist Spencer Tunick took another photo for his project – nudes against urban backdrops. This time it was with 5,200 naked Australians in front of the Sydney Opera House. Tunick instructed participants to do a number of poses, from standing up, lying down, and even embracing cheek to cheek.

The new plug-in electric hybrid Porsche concept car named the 918 Sypder is the biggest surprise from Volkswagen’s preview show on the eve of the Geneva Auto show. The car will achieve 78 miles per gallon, 16 miles battery range and does 0-60 in 3.2 seconds.

Researchers at NASA uploaded an amazing series of composite pictures of clear view of Earth named “Blue Marble”. The photos are the results of months of effort putting together thousands of true-color images were cloud coverage was minimized by taking separate photos over the course of several days.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is on its way to be fully functional as it was restarted last night. The 5.6 billion dollars project which is built inside a 27-kilometer tunnel is aimed at understanding the origins of the universe by recreating the conditions that followed the Big Bang.

Extrenely rare 1,300-year-old fragments of Hebrew biblical manuscripts existed separately and with their relationship unknown until an accidental discovery found the link between them. Together, they make up the text of the Song of the Sea which is shown now at Israel’s national museum.

Scientists from Monash University discovered new effective way of treating prostate cancer – the second most common cancer for men in the world. The new treatment deals with resistent cells which cannot be cured using existing treatments by activating the beta estrogen receptor in the prostate.
