Researchers feared that the Rosser’s sac spider may have gone extinct after 10 years ago the sightings if it stopped completely. A new sighting of the spider has provided proof of its existence and has suggested that the population of it is healthier than thought before.

13 Nations To Save Tigers From Extinction

13 countries where tigers still live in the wild participated in a tiger summit in ST. PETERSBURG, Russia and agreed to a program to save the iconic big cats from extinction. The Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio committed $1 million to World Wildlife Fund after helping the group raise $20 million for tiger conservation earlier this year.

Saving 180,000 Baby Turtles

Brazil’s Turtles of the Amazon Project is an organization which aims to make the first stages of life for the endangered turtles a little easier. The organization recently coordinated the release of 180,000 thirty days old Arraus river turtles into the Amazon river with hopes to better their chances to survive.

Protection to the World’s Ecosystems

An historic global treaty to protect the world’s ecosystems will be signed after an agreement has been reached by delegates at a UN summit on Saturday. 193 nations, rich and poor, will take effective and urgent actions to stop the destruction of the environment by for example protecting forests and coral reefs and managing fisheries.

wild condors in California Flourish

A captive breeding program for the wild condors in California caused the population of the wild condors to rise from only 22 in the year 1982 to 100 today. The condors will get another bump over the next few months with the release of 11 juveniles. The big birds are also reproducing on their own in the wild, adding 16 young to the California population since 2004.

South Africa To Battle Rhino Poachers

South Africa launched a new wildlife crime unit that will attempt to stop the killings for the animal’s horn. The new crime unit will bring national and provincial wildlife authorities together, who will coordinate with law enforcement to act quickly when new cases of poaching are found.

Miracle Comeback for ‘Princess’ Turtle

A leatherback turtle, dubbed Rantau Abang Princess, has shown up last week on one of Malaysia’s beaches after a 32-year absence. The leatherback is the largest of all sea turtles and the northern state of Terengganu is Malaysia’s sole nesting place for the endangered leatherback.

Russia Creates Vast New Protected Areas

The Russian government decided to create 9 new nature reserves and 13 national parks covering a total area of over 3.8 million ha in addition to marine buffer zones of over 1 million ha. Polar bears, walruses, sea otters, and other endangered species will all benefit from the new protected areas.

New Species of Giant Lizard Discovered
