Starting this week (Armed Forces Day), the National Park Service and BLM (Bureau of Land Management) will start issuing free annual passes (which normally costs $80) for military families.

No More Disposable Water Bottles on Campus

A dozen of college campuses across the U.S. and Canada,  including Cornell and Stanford, will no longer supply disposable plastic water bottles, instead there will be some “hydration stations”, where students and faculty can refill their own bottles.

Cities are trying to help the homeless survive the hot summer

Many USA cities are suffering heat waves during this summer and a lot of the cities from Lansing, Mich., to Boston are sending out street patrols with cold containers with water and opening cooling centers to make sure homeless residents are cared for during the heat wave.

Fewer deaths from colon cancer in the USA

Since the year of 2007, and due to an increase of 65%  in screening at the USA, death rates from colorectal cancer decreased in 49 states (Only Mississippi had no change in its death rate) and Washington, D.C., with the largest declines in states with the most screening.

25 Lions rescued from Bolivian circuses

25 lions (13 males and 12 females) rescued from Bolivian circuses and were brought to a wildlife sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado (35 miles northeast of Denver).
